How to update Sampo

Keeping your Sampo theme updated ensures access to the latest features, improvements, and fixes. While some updates are straightforward, others may require additional steps. To get started, check Shopify's official guide for theme updates: Updating Themes.

Here are quick instructions you can follow once you've decided to update the theme:

1. Backup Your Current Theme

Before updating, it’s highly recommended to create a backup of your current theme to safeguard any changes you’ve made:

  • Go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin.
  • Find your current theme and click the three-dot menu.
  • Select "Duplicate" to create a backup copy.

Note: If you or a third-party developer (such as an app developer) has made custom code changes to your theme, these changes will not automatically transfer to the updated version.

2. Download the Latest Version

When a new version of the Sampo theme is available, you'll see a notification in the theme section, such as:
"Sampo version [version number] available."

  • Click the notification and continue to "Add to theme library".
  • You can also click View release notes to read about the new theme release.

3. Review the Updated Theme

After installing the new version, thoroughly review its functionality to ensure everything is working as expected:

  • Check key pages like the Home Page, Product Pages, Collection Pages, and any other critical areas of your store.
  • If your previous theme had custom code modifications, remember to reapply these changes manually in the updated theme.

4. Publish the New Version

Once you’ve customized and tested the updated version:

  • Go to Online Store > Themes in Shopify admin.
  • Click Actions > Publish to make the new version live.
